How does the photographer use space within the image?
the negative space within the image is used effectively it frames the subject the space behind and underneath her frames her making it look empty around her. |
Simply describe what you see in the image writing as many things as possible.
The plain white walls contrasting with the dark clothing and strong lines of the desk. There's a lot of tonal range within this image ranging from very dark black/grey tones to much lighter grey/white tones creating high levels of contrast for example; the girls dark clothing against the plain wall behind her. What do you find unusual about the photograph? The positioning of the desk is quite unusual the lines are all going in one direction then because of the way its been positioned there's one line going in the other direction. What do you find interesting about the photograph? The composition of the image is interesting because the subject isn't in the centre it's slightly off to the right side of the photograph. How would you describe the background? The background of this image is simple the walls are just white they are very stark there's nothing else to look for in the images, the students are wearing dark clothing which contrast. |
Experimenting with Portraiture
For this task we were asked to create a portrait of the person we were working with. Something that may not have been seen before. To do this we needed to play with possibilities, try and be more open minded, I tried to be more instinctive but found it quite difficult to do more. I found it difficult to think of ideas at the time, trying to think about a portrait that had never been seen before.
How did you approach the subject?
I approached the subject by thinking about what images I had seen before and trying to
Honestly. Did you collaborate with the person you worked with?
i got on with Erin really well, we went with each others ideas we both tried and did what the other person wants us to do which made it much easier to experiment more with all different ideas that we had.
What could have done differently?
I could've thought more about my portraits, thought about more angles and trying more things to make them look more interesting.
